Your role
Interested in working financial services and have a keen eye for detail, but not sure where to start? Do you want to work for a firm with a truly global footprint?
We’re looking for ambitious students to join our 2024 Internship Program within our Group Compliance, Regulatory & Governance Department.
You’ll get to:
- support and liaise with senior members of the team on regional/global projects
- assist and advise business areas on laws, regulations and rules that govern our day-to-day activities
- collaborate with global colleagues to ensure that best practices are shared around the region/globe
- perform oversight and quality reviews of daily position monitoring and disclosure submissions in accordance with substantial shareholding, short selling positions reporting as well as foreign ownership limits in sensitive industries for EMEA jurisdictions
- process statutory reporting requests from issuers and/or agents, including checking the validity of requests e.g. based on articles of association or specific laws
- gain knowledge in regulatory reporting requirements to ensure compliance with regulation in each jurisdiction
- identify risks by contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of existing processes as well as driving new process ideas
Your team
You’ll be working in Group Compliance and Regulatory Governance located in (Zurich). We build trust, help safeguard our business, and strive for new ways to proactively identify and control existing and emerging risks. The team has a number of key responsibilities including operational risk, compliance, financial crime, government and regulatory affairs as well as investigations.
You will be part of the broader Group Compliance and Regulatory Governance (GCRG) organisation and specifically within the EMEA GSR department which is located in Zurich. The GSR team is primarily responsible for monitoring & reporting UBS’s substantial shareholding positions as stipulated for the respective EMEA jurisdictions. Failure to fulfil this obligation can lead to the incurring fines, regulatory sanction, reputational damage and the curtailing of some of our business activities. This role includes juggling a variety of demands in conducting monitoring processes to ensure compliance of UBS with its reporting obligations. Additional tasks include improving internal controls and enhancement of the team’s core processes.
Your expertise
We’re looking for a candidate who:
- has completed at least 4 semesters of a bachelor’s degree, and graduated no longer than six months ago (bachelor’s or master’s degree)
- has values that align with ours: hard-working, trustworthy, dedicated and collaborative
- is a strategic thinker with strong communication skills
- is motivated to work in a business with high demands and tight deadlines
- has advanced MS Excel skills
- has knowledge of financial products and/or trade lifecycles
- keen interest in working on compliance topics
- is fluent in English; fluency in German or any other European languages are an advantage.
Your program
This paid internship will last 3-12 months. You’ll work with our experts and learn about the industry, our clients and our firm. You’ll be right at the heart of our business, learning from your colleagues, taking part in day-to-day operations. You’ll be given mentors along the way and will have the chance to get to know some of the most senior members of our teams.
