“I am a full-time air traffic controller and I work for around 35 hours a week. This means that I can make a useful contribution in my job and still find time for my sport.”

Katrin Schnellmann, air traffic controller and triathlete

A fascination with aviation

All over the world, billions of passengers travel on millions of flights every year. Aircraft are also used for the rapid transport of goods and many millions of tonnes of freight, letters and parcels are moved around by air. As a result, the aviation industry employs hundreds of thousands of people.

Skyguide at the heart of the industry

Skyguide plays a key role in aviation. With 1500 employees at 14 locations, we provide air navigation services in Switzerland and parts of neighbouring countries. Every year, we guide around 1.2 million civil and military flights safely and efficiently through Europe’s most complex airspace. None of this would be possible without our team of competent, committed and motivated employees. They are people with a passion for aviation. Like you perhaps?

“My father was an air traffic controller and I’ve been fascinated by flying since I was small.”

Kevin Egloff, trainee air traffic controller

Working at Skyguide

We offer a range of options for getting started at Skyguide, including apprenticeships, internships and entry-level roles.

Air traffic controllers

At Skyguide, air traffic controllers (ATCOs) monitor arriving and departing flights, route them to their airways and coordinate the air traffic with their colleagues in neighbouring sectors. Air traffic controllers at Skyguide work in the tower, in approach and departure control, in the area control centres and in the air defence and direction centre. You can train on full pay at the Skyguide Academy to take on this responsible role.

Air navigation services employees

Air navigation services employees (ANSEs) provide important information to the stakeholders in the Swiss aviation industry (airlines, pilots, airport authorities and air traffic controllers) to ensure that the flow of air traffic is safe and efficient. Skyguide will train you on full pay to become an ANSE.

You can find more information here: www.skyguide.ch/anse

Air traffic safety electronics personnel

Invisible to the public, but essential for operations, air traffic safety electronics personnel (ATSEP), both technicians and engineers, play a key role in aviation. Pilots rely on the accurate electronic signals sent by navigation aids on the ground. As technical and IT specialists, air traffic safety electronics technicians and engineers are responsible for these ground-based electronic systems. Their tasks include maintaining, repairing, modifying and installing navigation and radar systems. Skyguide will train you to become an air traffic safety electronics technician or engineer over a period of two years on full pay. Career changers are also welcome!
