More and more (part-time) students have the opportunity to work from home. Working from home has many advantages, but it can also be a challenge.
Here are a few tips that can help you work productively and successfully in a home office.
Create a suitable working environment
A suitable working environment will support you in your work. It is important to create a quiet and distraction-free workspace to minimise distractions and keep you focused on your work. Also ensure that your work area is well lit and at a comfortable temperature.
Set clear working hours
Clearly define your working hours and stick to them. It is important to develop a routine to stay productive and to keep work and free time separate. Also talk to your employer to make sure they respect your working hours and that they do not contact you outside of these hours.
Use technology efficiently
To work efficiently, you should use technology wisely. Work with tools such as video conferencing software and instant messaging apps to keep in touch and hold meetings. Also use cloud computing services to store and share files and documents.
Stay active
Stay active to stay motivated. Take regular breaks to do short stretches or other physical activity. Make sure you eat a balanced diet and get enough sleep to give your body and mind the energy they need.
Avoid distractions
Keep distractions to a minimum. Silence your mobile phone and avoid social media or other distractions (news portals, Zalando, YouTube, etc.) during working hours. We recommend you create a daily to-do list to focus on the most important tasks.
As you can see, working from home can be challenging. By creating a suitable working environment, setting clear working hours, using technology efficiently, staying active and avoiding distractions, you can be productive and successful in your home office. Use these tips to make the most of your time working from home.
